Dr. David Kaplan speaking at a conference

Primary care is a critical element of a high-quality health system.

Health Quality Ontario supports quality improvement in all primary care practice models. We develop, support and facilitate ways for primary care providers to build capacity and share knowledge to improve the quality of patient care.

Primary care providers can measure their patients’ experiences with the Primary Care Patient Experience Survey. Understanding patient perspectives can provide insight into current strengths and opportunities for improvement and inform the practice’s annual Quality Improvement Plan.

Every day, primary care providers are faced with the challenge of balancing supply and demand to meet their patients’ needs. Busy waiting rooms and stressful workplaces are common – but they don’t have to be. As part of its work to foster quality improvement capacity in Ontario’s health system, Health Quality Ontario has developed Advanced Access & Efficiency resources and strategies to assist your primary care practice to see patients on the day they call in or on a day of their choosing. The program is designed to streamline the day, enrich the experiences of patients, and increase staff satisfaction.
