Warm Welcome: New Members Join Our Patient, Family and Public Advisors Council Our Patient, Family and Public Advisors Council warmly welcomed eight new members at its April meeting. A big thank you to all members of our Council who provide strategic oversight to our work! In addition, we have a broader Patient, Family and Public Advisors Network of 500+ people who bring their perspectives and lived-experiences to the work we do. Join them! Hospitals Committing to Better Surgical CareForty-two hospitals are working together to make meaningful improvements to the surgical care they provide. They are members of the Ontario Surgical Quality Improvement Network and their new campaign, Committed to Better: Reducing Infections After Surgery, is about changing their practices to reduce infection rates in three areas: surgical site infections, urinary tract infections and pneumonia. They will also benchmark their infection rates against those of their international peers and report on their progress in their 2018-19 surgical quality improvement plans. New Quality StandardsQuality standards outline for clinicians and patients what quality care looks like for conditions where there are demonstrated variations in care. Two new quality standards are now available:
Helping Patients Manage PainIn collaboration with partner organizations across the health system, Health Quality Ontario has compiled the latest pain management supports into a one-stop digital hub. Clinicians can now access tools and resources to help patients manage their pain, including guidance on the appropriate use of opioids. New Health Technology AssessmentsTwo new health technology assessments with funding recommendations are now available: MyPractice: Long-Term CareThe new MyPractice: Long-Term Care Reports are now available. In this report, you will find refreshed antipsychotic prescribing rates and resident characteristics for additional context, along with other data and ideas on how to make improvements. New Musculoskeletal HubThe Adopting Research to Improve Care (ARTIC) Program is supporting the expansion of Rapid Access Clinics for musculoskeletal conditions in all Local Health Integration Networks across the province. Health Quality Ontario has created a new online hub for health care providers (and those interested in the implementation of the new model) to quickly and easily access related clinic information, tools and resources.
