Over a five-year period, the Adopting Research to Improve Care (ARTIC) Program accelerated the spread of proven care across Ontario. It broke down barriers and spread proven interventions across the health system using these enablers:
-
Strategic selection of interventions that have the potential for high impact
-
Education and training
-
Guidance and facilitation championship
-
A clear governance structure
-
Evaluation
Eight ARTIC projects were funded and their chosen evidence-based interventions were implemented across the province. Most of these interventions have been sustained to date and have improved care for hundreds of thousands of patients in Ontario.
Those involved with ARTIC gained unique insights into the process of spreading evidence-based interventions at the provincial level. A new report, Reflecting on five years of spread and scale, provides a written record of these insights.

ARTIC was developed by the Council of Academic Hospitals of Ontario and was co-led with Health Quality Ontario - soon to be part of Ontario Health.
