For patients in Ontario, it’s important that pharmacy professionals, in collaboration with other health-care professionals, play an active role in providing safe, high-quality care. Currently, there is no systematic way to measure the quality of pharmacy care or its impact on patient outcomes and the health system.

To better assess the quality of pharmacy practice and its impact on health outcomes, the Ontario College of Pharmacists – the regulating body for the pharmacy profession – and Health Quality Ontario, established an expert panel to select a small set of quality indicators for pharmacy care in Ontario. This report outlines the process to select the quality indicators for community pharmacy and presents the resulting indicators.
